MUMBAI: Lectures by professors at IIT-Bombay will be made available to learners across the country in two languages. The premier institute will be the first in India to launch IITBombayX, a platform for interactive ‘massive open online courses’ (MOOCs) on Republic Day.
Learners, from 15 to 75 years of age, can register for courses of their interest and get an ‘honour’ certificate after its completion. Lectures by eminent professors from institutes other than IIT-B will also be available on this platform. To begin with, three courses will be on offer from Monday.
The courses will be available on https://www.iitbombayx.in. This will be further extended to cover the needs for school education and vocational training, too, in the near future. The institute had collaborated with edX, one of the leading organizations to offer MOOCs globally, in May 2013. Some courses at IIT-B are available on the global platform, too.
The server is equipped to handle 4 to 5 lakh learners at a time. Besides videos, readings, and problem sets, IITBombayX will also provide interactive forums like discussions, quizzes & instant feedback.
