NEW DELHI: Concerned that the existing textbooks do not celebrate heroes, NCERT has decided to publish a series called ‘Veergatha’.
The decision was taken at the 52nd general council meeting of NCERT on Tuesday. The meeting, chaired by HRD minister Smriti Irani, was attended by state education ministers besides eminent academicians. Irani said NCERT should compile a book in consultation with the defence ministry on the persons who have sacrificed their lives for the cause of the nation. Special emphasis will be given to women achievers and freedom fighters in the book.
Irani also called upon the states and all the stakeholders to give their suggestions on the new education policy and asked NCERT to have extensive consultations and discussions on the NEP and the curriculum with the states up to the grassroot level. This exercise is to be completed by August and the report submitted by September 2015.
